Introduction

 

There were a lot of discussions in the SMMEEWG of APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) about SMEs, and their challenges in the areas of access to international market, talents and capacities, access to finance, innovations and entrepreneurship.  During these meetings, ABAC China shared the experience of how Cross-border e-Commerce in China has developed so fast in the past few years, how SMEs in China successfully leverage cross-border e-commerce to start their businesses, to access the global market, and to compete with large corporations, etc.  Internet financing has evolved so quickly in China.  In particular, internet supply chain financing has quickly become an excellent financing tools for SMEs, which becomes the financial service that SMEs can really benefit after so many years, without the need of collateral or guarantors.  e-Commerce has been recognized as the catalyst of economy growth in China.

 

Based on the overwhelming response to the experience sharing by ABAC China in the APEC and ABAC meetings, there was an initiative to have this CBET program in 2004 to share these successful experience with all the APEC economies, and at the same time promote cross-border trading, and provide opportunities for international business networking.

 

This CBET program is organized by ABAC China, with support from DHgate, a famous B2B cross-border e-commerce platform in China with 10 years of experience, with sponsors from DHgate and other organizations.  This CBET program was endorsed by the APEC Business Advisory Council, the APEC China Business Council, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, etc.
